Another week, another Friday Feature and this time it’s an old friend & make-up enthusiast/artist, Candace Dixon. Candace has been expirementing with make-up for several years now, but it was only recently when she decided to “Up” her make-up game. Considering herself as her own muse, she LOVES creating new looks and uses this form of art to express her creativity.
“When new chances arise, TAKE IT AND ROLL.“

Who is Candace? Tell us about yourself…
I’m currently an AP holder to Universal & IOA. I love going to theme parks & just spending the day away from real life, especially in Harry Potter World & Mardi Gras. I’m the silly/goofy friend always making funny faces, especially in the club.
I LOVE Epcot, and drinking (and eating) around the world. My shirt has my motto: fiesta, siesta, repeat. One of my best accomplishments – graduating from FAU with my Bachelor’s in Education.
When did you first start experimenting with make up and what do you find most fascinating about it???
I honestly can’t remember when I officially decided I needed makeup in my life, but I got “serious” back in 2012. I started to wear eyeshadow, then liner with wings, and added to my brows.
For awhile, I just did eyes & brows and I would experiment through colorful eyeshadows and bright liners. It wasn’t until early/mid 2016 when I started doing a “full” face with lips. Finally, in 2017 I learned about contour, baking and full glam.
I feel like the most fascinating thing about makeup is that it’s still art, but you get to wear your own creation & show it off. You are your own muse.
Lips are probably my favorite part of doing my makeup. I tend to lean towards bold, red lips 90% of the time. I used to be known for bright colored eyeshadow, but found an everlasting love for matte liquid lipsticks. I have a wide range of colors, but I always tend to gravitate to some shade of red.
What made you decide to create your goldglitzglam_candy IG page?
I decided that flooding my personal IG with makeup looks was probably annoying to all of my followers/friends (no one ever said so but I just got that instinct), so I wanted a separate space for selfies of looks, reviews of products and, box subscriptions I got in the mail, or anything that had to do with beauty really. I created it with the intention of trying out new looks/bold statements and just to document my progress.

I actually started out pretty consistent posting things, but definitely have fallen off here and there. In 2019, my resolution was to work really hard to perfect my “art.” I wish I could say I met that resolution but in my heart, I know I didn’t put my all into it. I did learn new things along the way and watched many videos and get ready with me’s, but I didn’t document it as much as I would’ve liked to.

Since you decided to feature me on your blog, I realized how much I’ve missed makeup and doing looks for my IG page (due to quarantine & corona, I definitely don’t wear a full face every day anymore). Thanks for the motivation I didn’t know I needed.

Tell us about one of your most memorable looks and what makes it stand out?
One of my most memorable looks was my first ever cut crease with liner. I was brave and recreated this in January of THIS year.
Cut creases are SO hard. I’ve watched video after video, and the artists make it look so freakin’ easy. You have to have an extra steady hand, make sure you “cut” enough of the beginning shadow out to see the drastic line, and then fill in where you just cleaned up. It’s time consuming and after awhile you get so frustrated.
This look stands out because it’s way different than anything I’d normally do. I almost always do two-toned looks, with cat eye liner but adding the white like where the cut crease is, really changes it. I have hooded eyes, so I was definitely nervous to see how it would come out. I had to make sure I went high enough, over my “hoods” for it to be noticeable.
I strived really hard to make my liners even or as close to even as possible. The white lines were clearly uneven but I didn’t even care, I did it, rocked it in public and even got a few compliments.
The last pic was the inspiration for this look.
If you were to collab with another make-up artist, who would it be and why??
Kathleen Lights for sure. She is literally the cutest, caring, funny and just someone super chill. I LOOOVE watching her get ready with me videos on her IG story. She talks to you and makes you feel like you’re there. She’s super into astrology & old 90s/2000s music. I feel like we could be the same person. I just love her.
She also has collaborated with the makeup company Colourpop (ColourPop Cosmetics) which is literally one of my favorite places to shop and is super affordable. My favorite collab that she did, was create the So Jaded eyeshadow palette. It has been my go to palette recently. Especially the purples, teals & garnets.

She also has her own nail polish company (Lights Lacquer). She has a set of nudes for everyone and she just released a summer line called Sweet as Summer which has some great neon/bright colors.
On her YouTube, she also does unboxing videos of stuff she gets. I am such a sucker for unboxing videos, I don’t know why ?!
Would you consider a career in the beauty industry and if so, what would your goal be?
I’m actually asked this question a lot. And I’ve thought about it a million and one times… I definitely would. I always secretly hope to get a job at Ulta or in Macy’s in their beauty counters. One of the main reasons I would is just to learn from other people.
I am sooo comfortable (maybe too much) doing my own makeup, but scared to death to do someone else’s.
The goal, for me, would be to learn how to assist people with any and all skin types, shades, and how to accentuate their features. For the most part I only do my makeup, so if/when I do someone else’s, I tend to stick to my own routine and how I like it – which may not be what they like or how they want it to be done. I want to learn to veer away from my “norm” and create their own masterpiece that’s just for them.
It would be the best learning experience and I wish I had the time to just take that leap of faith. I love my career and working in an elementary school, but if the opportunity ever arises to become apart of the beauty industry, I wouldn’t even think twice. I’d go for it.

What role do you have in society and/or how do you wish to contribute?
By being an AfterSchool Director and serving the youth in the community, I get to feel apart of something. I get to have fun and hang out with kids, and keep them safe after school is let out.
I have always known that I was meant to make an impact in young people’s lives. Once upon a time, I wanted to be a teacher, but found AfterSchool and fell in love with that. I started as a counselor and slowly worked my way up to a director. It’s definitely my 2nd best accomplishment.
Explain a time where you’ve used talents to inspire the community and how do you hope to keep doing so?
So this might be silly, but I wear a full face of makeup just about every day to work. I like to feel professional even though I might be in a staff shirt and pants. There are a few kids (4th & 5th grade students) that basically look out for me to see how I have my makeup done each day.
They’re in awe and always ask how I did it, or what products I’ve used. I feel like by making sure I have a full face, I have something to talk to them about and bond with and it lets them know that I care what they say.
This gives me a sense of belonging, knowing I care and they care. I always try my best to keep the students best interest and keep them safe. That’s my motto — safety first, all day every day.
Lastly, what is the best piece advice you can give in life?
Nothing epic ever comes from your comfort zone. I say this because I took the biggest leap of faith when I was basically thrown into my director’s position. If I just stayed in my comfort zone, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I wouldn’t have a makeup Instagram. I wouldn’t be so gifted with makeup talents/looks. So if it makes you feel uncomfortable, it’s working and you’ll thank yourself later. I know I did and still do. When new chances arise, TAKE IT AND ROLL.
